PORT TOWNSEND — The Uptown Street Fair, an annual celebration of neighborhood and local artistry, on Saturday will blend live entertainment, the Port Townsend Arts and Crafts Fair, the Port Townsend Farmers Market, food vendors, free art activities, a beer garden and the Unbelievable Colorful Yet Brief Uptown Street Fair Parade.
The festival celebrating summer and the eclectic spirit of Uptown will be from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The fair is on Lawrence and Tyler streets uptown and the farmers market is on Polk Street. Music is planned everywhere and children’s art projects are on the grass and the sidewalks, organizers said.
Port Townsend Arts Guild reported that it has artists and craftspeople who show only at this fair.
They offer tie-dyed dresses and shirts, porcelain and high fire pottery, worked and cast sterling jewelry, knives, clothing, woven rugs, spun wool and knitted items, hand-sewn bags, leather work, felted items, paintings, Gatheringplace, blown glass and glass demonstrations.
For public safety, Lawrence and Tyler streets will be closed for the Uptown Street Fair, as well as the farmers market location on Polk Street.
Here is the schedule for the festival provided by Port Townsend Main Street Program:
• 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Farmers market and food vendors open.
• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Port Townsend Arts Guild Arts & Crafts Fair.
• 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. — Outdoor Beer Garden hosted by The Uptown Pub.
• 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — Chef Josh Uchitelle will cook local food to sample on Polk Street at the farmers market.
• 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. — Children’s art activities coordinated by PT Artscape on Lawrence Street.
• 10:30 a.m. — Family Story Time with Judith Bows, presented by the Port Townsend Public Library.
• 2 p.m. — The Unbelievable Colorful Yet Brief Uptown Street Fair Parade. (No political or religious entries.)

• 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. — Kiwanis Stars of Tomorrow winners.
• 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. — Ginnie Porter & George Radebaugh perform a blend of jazz, blues and soul.
• 11 a.m. to noon — Anne-O and Her Band perform classic covers from Beatles to the blues.
• Noon to 1:15 p.m. — Kristin Myers storytelling.
• 1:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. — DJ Silace Amaro & Friends Record Spinning with Hoop Dancing/Juggling by Alex Eisenberg.
• 2:25 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. — The Unexpected Brass Band, a funky New Orleans-style brass ensemble.
• 2:45 p.m. to 4 p.m. — DJ Silace Amaro & Friends Record Spinning with Hoop Dancing/Juggling by Alex Eisenberg.
• 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. — Brother Townsend will perform country/rock/folk/blues.
• 5:30 p.m. — “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” free at the Port Townsend Public Library, 1220 Lawrence St.; sponsored by the Friends of the Port Townsend Public Library.

The Uptown Street Fair is part of the four-day Soundcheck Music and Arts Festival that begins today and continues through Sunday with events that focus on local artists in five disciplines outlined by the Port Townsend Creative District: visual, literary, performing, culinary and makers arts.
