United Way, chambers form women’s networking group

PORT ANGELES — The United Way of Clallam County, along with the Sequim, Port Angeles and Forks chambers of commerce have joined together to create Women United, a women’s affinity group.

“We want to provide local women a place to create purposeful connection, and to grow personally and professionally through education and mentorship,” said Jaycie Wakefield, development director for United Way, in a press release.

First event

The inaugural event is planned to begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 21 at the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St., in Port Angeles.

A cocktail networking hour will be followed by a plated meal. Rachel Hardies, a mental health counselor and mental strength coach, and Dr. Lissa Lubinski, a board-certified family physician and owner of a community-inspired family medicine clinic, will give a presentation during the meal.

“These influential experts will lead a practical program and discussion on the issues that matter most to women, including leadership, workplace stressors, health and work/life balance,” Wakefield said.

“Clallam County women who attend will experience a unique opportunity for networking, professional development, and personal growth.”

Cost for the event covers the meal and tickets are available for $35 before July 5.

The cost will rise to $45 after that.

People also can ask to join the Clallam Women United Facebook page to stay up to date on events and programming.

Local need

The concept for this group was formed after a Galentine’s Day fundraiser hosted by United Way of Clallam County, which was created for women by women, with funds going directly to supporting women in need in Clallam County.

“The fact that this event sold out so quickly, and the outpouring of support from women in the community told us we should harness that energy and create other powerful women’s events,” Wakefield said.

“We envision Women United as a complement to other women’s groups in the area.”

The Women United affinity group aims to represent every age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, and religion; reflect a spectrum of gender identity; and connect across Clallam County.
