PORT TOWNSEND — Monday will be the finale for two shows at Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery and the last day before a three-week reboot at the venue.

“Small Expressions,” the diverse juried show of more than 100 artworks, and “Showcase 2024,” the year-round exhibition of local artists, are on view at the gallery at 701 Water St.

Regular hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays; in addition, this weekend will bring Art Walk from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

During the evening, gallery visitors can enjoy refreshments and talk with local artists.

Admission to the nonprofit art gallery is free.

Information about the downtown gallery’s shows can be found at https://northwindart.org.

Details also are on the site about the variety of courses and workshops at Northwind Art School at Fort Worden State Park.

After “Small Expressions” and “Showcase 2024” wrap up, the Jeanette Best Gallery will close for repainting and refreshment of the space.

“Right in the middle of our winter reboot, we’re going to have a pop-up sale,” said Northwind Art spokesperson Diane Urbani.

The sale, from noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 18-20, will feature fine art that has been donated over the years to Northwind as well as furnishings the organization no longer needs.

“We have beautiful art from local artists that we’re going to offer,” Urbani said.

Jeanette Best Gallery will reopen Jan. 30 with two new exhibitions: “Being with Kelp,” a one-woman show of art by Shawna Marie Franklin of Orcas Island, and “Showcase 2025,” the juried exhibit celebrating 15 makers from across the region.

“‘Being with Kelp’ is going to be a stunning show; Shawna’s paintings give a whole new perspective on local marine life,” Urbani said.

“Showcase 2025” will unveil sculptures, woodworking, collage, mixed-media art and more from artists in Clallam, Jefferson and Kitsap counties and Seattle.

Jurors Jaiden Dokken, Meg Kaczyk and Kim Kopp have selected these Showcase artists, who include award-winning sculptor John Strohbehn of Sequim, mask-maker Cyndy Salisbury of Bainbridge Island, woodblock printer Charles Spitzack of Seattle and mixed-media artist Mary O’Shaughnessy of Port Townsend.

Both of the new shows will be feted from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 1 during the first Saturday Art Walk.

“We’re about to transform the gallery,” Urbani said, “with this influx of new art and creative energy.”
