Two authors to read at Northwind center on Thursday

PORT TOWNSEND — The Northwind Reading Series will feature authors Sibyl James and Judith Roche on Thursday.

The reading will begin at 7 p.m. at the center at 701 Water St.

The suggested donation for the readings is $5. All proceeds will support the nonprofit Northwind Arts Center.

James has published 11 books — poetry, fiction and travel memoirs. They include “In China with Harpo and Karl” (Calyx Books), “The Adventures of Stout Mama” (Papier-Mache Press), “China Beats” (Egress Studio Press) and most recently “The Grand Piano Range” (Black Heron Press).

She has taught at colleges in the U.S., China, Mexico and, as a Fulbright professor, Tunisia and Cote d’Ivoire. Her writing has received awards from Artist Trust and the Seattle, King County and Washington State arts commissions.

Roche has won two American Book Awards and has published four collections of poetry. “All Fire All Water” from Black Heron Press is the most recent.

She has taught at all levels from elementary to university. She has poems installed in several Seattle-area public art installations and is published in magazines and journals. She is a member of the Fellow in the Black Earth Institute, an organization dedicated to social justice, environmental issues and spiritual awareness, and teaches at Hugo House.
