Tree planting, beach walk, swan talk slated among Peninsula activities

Lunch and learn

PORT TOWNSEND — The Food Co-op will host “Cheers! Drinking Vinegars and Probiotic Ferments for Gut Health” from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The free class will be held at the co-op’s annex, 2110 Lawrence St.

The class will explore a range of probiotic foods and drinks from kim chi to kombucha, including ways to make and enjoy many of these ferments, and some important tips on how to effectively use them to nourish your gut.

Low-tide walk

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Marine Science Center will guide a low-tide beach walk from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Participants will meet at North Beach County Park, 5787 Kuhn St.

The free hike will explore the beach after dark. Flashlights or headlamps are recommended.

Memoir reading

PORT TOWNSEND — Nisi Shawl will read from their work and answer questions at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Shawl’s presentation is part of Goddard College’s Master of Fine Arts in creative writing program in the second floor Reading Room of Building 204 at Fort Worden, 200 Battery Way.

The reading will be followed by a reception and book signing.

Shawl’s work includes the novel “Everfair” and the story collections “Filter House,” “Talk Like a Man” and “A Primer on Nisi Shawl.”

Tree planting

SEQUIM — The North Olympic Salmon Coalition is seeking volunteers to plant trees and native shrubs along the Dungeness River from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The coalition is trying to plant 10,000 trees during the 2020 planting season.

Toothy Storytime

SEQUIM — The North Olympic Library System will host “Toothy Storytime” at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The program is at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Toothy Storytime features stories and tips on how to keep healthy teeth and gums.

The free early literacy program is designed for pre-schoolers and their caregivers.

Story of Water

SEQUIM — Joe Holtrop will present “Irrigators and Conservation Actions Exercised by our Farmers” from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The presentation will be in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 152 W. Cedar St.

The presentation is part of the Story of Water in Depth series, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Clallam County.

Holtrop is the executive director of the Clallam Conservation District.

Swan lecture

SEQUIM — Laura Davis and Liam Antrim will present “Swans of the Sequim-Dungeness Valley” at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The free lecture will be presented in the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.

Davis and Antrim will provide an update on the society’s project to monitor swans using the Sequim-Dungeness Valley.
