Toastmasters to launch Second Tuesday Speakers series in Sequim

SEQUIM — The Skwim Toastmasters Club, whose members have earned eight educational awards this year, will launch a monthly Second Tuesday Guest Speaker Series next week.

The second Tuesday Guest Speaker Series takes place where the Sequim club already meets the first and third Tuesdays at 137 Fairway Drive, known as “The Gathering Place” in Sunland.

Admission to the series is free.

“We’re creating a free, open-to-the-public, regular event to inspire and educate not only our members, but the public at large,” said Lindy MacLaine, the club’s vice president of education.

“We plan to showcase top Toastmaster speakers in our vicinity with a wide range of topics chosen for their broad public appeal. We already have an exciting line-up,” she promised.

Tuesday’s 7 p.m. inaugural speaker is Distinguished Sequim Toastmaster Kyle Hall presenting “Job Hunting: The Mental Game.”

Based on his own job-hunting experience and his corporate years in sales, Hall will discuss internal techniques for surviving and thriving during the modern employment-seeking process.

“Searching for a job is hard work,” Hall said. “Over time, it can crush even the most confident person’s self esteem. I’m offering practical tools to change that result.”

Guest speaker presentations will average 45 minutes in length, followed by the Toastmaster tradition of Table Topics — short impromptu speaking practice in which the audience can participate if they choose.

“Attendees can count on us to start and end on time,” MacLaine said, referring to the foundational practice in Toastmaster meetings of exacting time management. “Guests are encouraged to arrive a little ahead of the 7 p.m. start time.”

Skwim Toastmasters is part of Toastmasters International, a worldwide nonprofit educational organization that empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.
