Toastmasters invites community to laugh out loud

SEQUIM — The Skwim Toastmasters will host a “Laugh Out Loud” Humorous Showcase at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church.

The event at the church at 100 S. Blake Ave., is open to all. A $5-per-person donation is suggested at the door, but it will not be “policed.” RSVP at loltoast.eventbrite.org.

“We’ve all heard that laughter is good for you,” said Lindy MacLaine, the event’s coordinator.

“We know that physically, it lowers stress hormones and boosts the immune system. We know it uplifts our mental health. Not everyone gives thought to how laughter benefits us as a community.”

Nine award-winning Toastmasters-trained humorous speakers will share the stage. Woven into the evening will be a small live auction to support area Toastmasters clubs.

“In my Toastmasters club, I’m getting the promised education in communication and leadership,” MacLaine said.

“But the very best and most enduring thing is that we all laugh together — a lot. When I started envisioning the Laugh Out Loud event, the heart of it is to share laughing together with the whole community.”

Skwim Toastmasters is part of Toastmasters International, a worldwide nonprofit educational organization that “empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.”

The Sequim club meets every Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at The Gathering Place in Sunland, 135 Fairway Drive.
