Tidepools Magazine announces 2021 winners

Publication will hit Peninsula bookstores in May

PORT ANGELES — Tidepools Magazine, Peninsula College’s annual literary art magazine, has announced the winners of its 2021 art and writing contest.

The annual magazine promotes original fine art, digital art, photography, poetry, short prose and music created by residents of the North Olympic Peninsula for more than 50 years.

The next issue of the magazine will be available May in local bookstores.

The winners are:

• Adult Art and Digital Art: First, “HeArt Installation” by Kari Hardin; second, “Flow” by Tabitha Pindell; and third, “Peruse” by Ken Dry.

• Adult Photography: First, “Cline Spit Kayaker” by Steven Jones; second, “Lake Crescent Reflections” by Dann May; and third, “Frog in Bloom” by Al Phillips.

• Adult Poetry: First, “A Visit to Bubba” by Nan Toby Tyrell; second, “During a Festival for Patron Saints in Romania” by Donna Morris; and third, “Homeless” by Connie Kinyon.

• Adult Prose: First, “Forever Days” by Stephen Workman; second, “Miss Kitty’s Fraud – 1892” by Mary-Ann Miller; and third, “Argument” by Kristan Mabrey.

• Peninsula College Student Art and Digital Art: First, “Self-Portrait” by Sophia Mahan Buonamici; second, “Around the Rocks the Rugged Rascals Run” by Sophia Mahan Buonamici; and third, “The Kraken” by Angela Miller.

• Peninsula College Student Photography: First, “Dragonfly in Midair” by Emily Matthiessen; second, “The Pond Crowd” by Emily Matthiessen; and third, “Morning Haze” by Angela Miller.

• Peninsula College Student Writing: First, “Blinker” by Emily Loucks; second, “Loss” by Lillian Eyl; and third, “Hevel” by Emily Loucks.

• Music: First, “Light of Day” by Kayohti; second, “Someday” by Pharaoh and Valentine; and third, “Jenna” by Katie Cobb.

• Youth Art 0-9: “Shipwreck Under the Sea” by Veronica Shaefermeyer.

• Youth Art 10-13: “Alien Art” by Ewan Mordecai-Smith.

• Youth Art 14-17: “When I Close My Eyes” by Liberty Lauer.

• Youth Writing 0-9: “Sugar Rush” by Anouk Atwater.

• Youth Writing 10-13: “Sacrifice” by Noah Isenberg.

• Youth Writing 14-17: “Autumn Reflection” by Liberty Lauer.
