Tickets on sale for next Rainshadow Chorale concerts

Tickets are on sale for the RainShadow Chorale concert, “Let My Love Be Heard,” which will be performed May 12-13 in Chimacum and Port Townsend.

The concerts will be at 7 both evenings. The May 12 concert will be at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 45 Redeemer Way, Chimacum. The May 13 concert will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor St., Port Townsend.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 10 to 18. They are available at Crossroads Music in Port Townsend and will be offered at the door.

Conductor Gil Seeley has chosen music for the RainShadow Chorale spring program that focuses on renewal and celebration of life.

The concert opens with two numbers performed in tribute to the 450th birthday of Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi. The program continues with an operatic chorus by Mozart, a movement from Haydn’s “The Creation” and two Romantic pieces by Mendelssohn heralding spring.

It includes contemporary works by American composers Shawn Kirchner and Jake Runestad on the meaning of love, a piece on a pastoral text by English poet William Blake and a piece written by Gil Seeley expressly for a RainShadow debut, titled “Morning Rabbit,” with text by Jane Kepner.

The concerts showcase two pieces for men, including “The Pasture” by Randall Thompson, and two pieces for women, including “Danny Boy.”

Several folk songs will include “Shenandoah.” The finale will be of Broadway show tunes.

Lisa Lanza will provide piano accompaniment.

The concert also includes special accompaniment on several numbers by guest artists Al Andalus. Using the Arabic oud, flamenco guitar and Native American flute and drum, Al Andalus performs music that is meant to promote peace, tolerance and respect for people of all religions.

In addition, the group will perform several works in their rich repertoire of music from southern Spain and North Africa.

This concert is supported by funding from First Federal and the Port Townsend Arts Commission. Rainshadow Chorale is a nonprofit organization based in Port Townsend.
