Tickets are on sale for ‘Shattered Ceilings’

SEQUIM — Tickets are on sale now for “Shattered Ceilings,” a dramatic performance that celebrates women who were directly involved with the Suffrage Movement and those who shattered their own personal ceilings — for themselves and women who followed.

The play will be presented at the Old Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2741 Towne Road, Sequim, on March 18 as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Clallam County League of Women Voters, with two performances at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Tickets are $20 each, available now at https://lwvcla.brownpapertickets.com/, Port Book and News in Port Angeles, or the Visitor Information Center at the Sequim Chamber of Commerce. If available, tickets at the door will be $25.

Under the direction of Sequim resident Carol Swarbrick Dries, eight local actresses will portray an array of women who made significant contributions to the nation through courage, imagination and conviction despite obstacles of inequality.

Personal stories

The audience will hear personal stories from such women as Susan B. Anthony and Alice Paul, Shirley Chisholm and Bella Abzug and learn more about Sojourner Truth and Fannie Hurst.

In addition to the two performances of “Shattered Ceilings,” a historical exhibit of the League of Women Voters’ work in Clallam County during the past 50 years and refreshments will be open to the public at no admission cost from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at The Old Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2741 Towne Road, Sequim.

The national League of Women Voters, an outgrowth of the women’s suffrage movement, was formed in 1920 as a nonpartisan civic organization to educate the public and to assure the success of democracy.

The Clallam County League was formed in 1968, and since that date has worked to encourage local citizens to register to vote, become well-informed voters, and participate in all levels of government.
