‘The Tempest’ opening night Friday

PORT TOWNSEND — Opening night of the Olympic Peninsula HomeConnection’s production of William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” will be Friday.

Shows will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday as well as June 2-4 at the San Juan Baptist Church, 1704 Discovery Road, Port Townsend.

Admission is by donation.

The production is part of a tradition of performing Shakespeare plays with students in grades four through eight.

Past plays include “Macbeth,” “As You Like It,” “Richard III,” “Twelfth Night,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and a 2020/2021 movie “Timon of Athens.”

“The Tempest,” like many of the school’s other productions, includes songs and an original score. This year the score was written by former Olympic Peninsula HomeConnection (OPHC) student Rowan Powell.

It is directed by Consuelo Brennan, Carla Powell and Maggie Kelley.

The OPHC program is an alternative educational experience for K-8 students. Students are enrolled as full-time public school students, while learning at home.
