SEQUIM — The Sequim Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital will bring “Texas Swing and Country Music” to Sequim and Port Angeles on Saturday.
Award-winning musicians Kristyn Harris and Kate Powers will perform from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Port Angeles Senior & Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.
The concert features Western swing music with vocals, guitar and fiddle.
Tickets will be $15 at the door or can be purchased in advance from Sequim Guild members by emailing sequimguild@gmail.com.
Harris is a Texas cowgirl from McKinney, Texas. At 21, she is the youngest recipient of the Western Music Association’s Female Performer of the Year (2014, 2015), and her third CD, “Down the Trail,” won the 2015 Western Music Association’s Western Album of the Year.
Powers, a North Olympic Peninsula native, has played with the Washington Old Time Fiddlers and various local groups recently, including the Peninsula College College Jazz Ensemble.
At 16, Powers has just released her debut CD, “Jump.” She is a self-proclaimed ambassador of “music in general” and plays a variety of genres of music.
The concert benefits Seattle Children’s Hospital, and all proceeds go to the hospital’s uncompensated care fund.
Seattle Children’s Hospital gives essential health care to children in Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho regardless of a family’s ability to pay. In 2014, Seattle Children’s used more than $1.7 million of uncompensated care fund dollars to provide care to children from Clallam County.
