Teaching artists exhibit open at Grover Gallery

PORT TOWNSEND — Grover Gallery, one of the two galleries nonprofit Northwind Art currently occupies downtown, has been reimagined to support the work of teaching artists and students at Northwind Art School in Fort Worden.

“We Love Our Teaching Artists” opens today at Grover Gallery, 236 Taylor St. It will be on view through March 26.

The exhibition features the work of teaching artists Evette Allerdings, Lauren Altman, Jeremy Johnson, Allan Jones, Jesse Joshua Watson, Meg Kaczyk, Barbara Ramsey and Dana Sullivan.

“As an organization that has both an education program and an exhibition program, Northwind Art strives to integrate these two aspects of its mission,” said Executive Director Teresa Verraes.

“In an effort to strengthen these connections, and in recognition of the creative energy teaching artists bring to our education program, we are dedicating one of our gallery spaces to celebrate them.”

This invitation is the beginning of a broader realignment and expansion of the exhibition programming at the Grover Gallery, Verraes said.

“Not everyone is a teacher and not everyone is an artist, but the Northwind Art School teachers are both,” Verraes said.

“The fact that they are committed to guiding others through the beautiful, messy and sometimes challenging world of art making is an absolute gift to our community and beyond.”
