Tattoos, paintings, felt creations highlighted on Second Weekend Art Walk

PORT ANGELES — Show off your tattoos and meet some of the artists who do the work at “Beyond the Tattoo” at Studio Bob on Saturday during the Port Angeles Second Weekend Art Walk.

The crew at Mark’d Body Art in Port Angeles will be on hand from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday to answer questions and display their creations, said Bob Stokes, owner of Studio Bob at 118½ E. Front St.

“Marcus Tanner and his team of artists hope to add transparency to the tattoo industry and bring a new level of familiarity between the shop and the community that they love,” Stokes said in a news release.

“Through this art show, they hope to highlight the unique aspects of art and creativity that goes into the conceptualization, creation and application of a tattoo design,” he said.

The public is also invited to show off their own ink. Anyone with a tattoo is encouraged to dress appropriately so as to present their art.

“We will turn up the heat,” Stokes said.

Ernst-Ulrich Schafer will be on hand to photograph, at no cost, those who bare their ink.

A no-host bar and refreshments will be available in The Loom, next to the studio. For those who can’t make Saturday’s main event, Studio Bob will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The monthly self-guided Second Weekend Art Walk was founded about 11 years ago by the Port Angeles Arts Council as a coalition of downtown Port Angeles businesses and art galleries to bring attention to the culture and variety offered there, organizers said.

Art event signs are up at participating hotels, bed-and-breakfasts, restaurants and galleries.

Visitors also can take strolls through the collection of outdoor sculptures around Port Angeles’ downtown and waterfront called Art on the Town.

Other events planned on the Second Weekend are:

Heatherton Gallery, 115 E. Railroad Ave., plans an artist reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today.

The gallery will feature three artists during the months of February and March: Janet Beers, watercolorist; Janet Piccola, potter; and Sky Heatherton, painter.

Three different artists will be featured every two months.

Harbor Art, 110 E. Railroad Ave., plans an artist reception from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

This month, the gallery welcomes Terri Biondolino, wool felting artist, who creates sometimes whimsical and sometimes realistic animal artwork.

Harbor Art, open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the art walk, features the original work of 16 local artists, including photography, paintings, block prints, sculpture, wood work, ceramics, glass, felting and jewelry.

Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., at 9 tonight will feature a live performance by Ches Ferguson and Friends of Port Angeles while Port Angeles artist Lynne Roberson paints as part of 2nd Friday Art Rock.

Ches Ferguson and Friends will perform acoustic rock while Roberson creates her own artistic response to the music.

A $3 cover charge will help support the musicians and artist.
