PORT ANGELES — The Juan de Fuca Foundation will host one of Scotland’s premier traditional bands, Tannahill Weavers, in concert Sunday.
Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door for the 6 p.m. Sunday show at the Naval Elks Lodge, 131 E. First St.
Tickets are available online at jffa.org, Port Book and News, 104 E. First St., Port Angeles; and Dungeness Kids Co., 163 W. Washington St. in Sequim.
Now in their 51st year, the Tannahill Weavers’ diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals, topical songs, original ballads and lullabies, and humorous tales of life in Scotland, according to a news release.
Their music demonstrates the varied musical heritage of the Celtic people, organizers said.
Born of a session in Paisley, Scotland, and named for the town’s historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill, the group has made an international name for its special brand of Scottish music, blending the beauty of traditional melodies with the power of modern rhythms, organizers said.
For this tour they are joined by piper Mike Katz of Battlefield Band fame.
In 2018 they released their 18th recording, Òrach (“Golden” in Gaelic) to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
As they move onward in 2019, they are firmly established as one of the premier groups on the concert stage.
From reflective ballads to foot-stomping reels and jigs, the variety and range of the material they perform are matched only by their enthusiasm and lively Celtic spirits.
