PORT ANGELES — Tickets are still available for a virtual discussion about the arts set for tonight (Friday, Sept. 25).
Three of the four members of the collaborative Tangled Fibers, a group of Port Townsend artists whose Undersea Garden exhibit opened Sept. 12 at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, will speak at the ArtBites event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Pat Herkal, Barbara Ramsey and Cathie Wier will discuss what they find most valuable about working together, their advice for others interested in collaborating, and their current exhibit at the center at 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
In addition to hearing from the artists, attendees will be able to share questions and insights with speakers and one another. Everyone is welcome in this conversation, regardless of background or experience with art, gallery officials said.
Tickets for the virtual event are $10, with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit arts center.

Undersea Garden: A Voyage of Wonder and Imagination opened under smoke-filled skies, but visitors soon forgot the smoke as they wandered the gallery, said Executive Director Jessica Elliott in a press release.
Herkal created bead-encrusted sculptures. Wier’s weightless crocheted-wire seaweed spirals move in even the slightest breeze. Jean Marie Tarascio’s translucent paper sculptures cast dramatic shadows across the white gallery walls. And, high overhead, Ramsey’s diatoms reimagined the microscopic algae as a mass of saucer-sized circles of quilted fabric, strung on irregular wires to suggest a dense population of aquatic life.
Tangled Fibers has met regularly since 2016. All four work in fiber but each has a unique perspective.
The Undersea Garden exhibit represents their most ambitious project to date.
Two previous collaborative projects (Flora Fauna Fiber, 2017) and Kelp Forest, 2019) have been exhibited in Port Townsend.
The Undersea Garden exhibit may be viewed in the Esther Webster Gallery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, through Nov. 15.
The full exhibition is also available online for viewing or purchase. Online visitors will find photos of each artwork, written statements from the participating artists and a video tour through the gallery.
Masks and social distancing are required of visitors. The number of visitors at one time is limited.
