Take a bite out of this: Tickets on sale now for Dracula spoof

PORT ANGELES — Tickets are on sale now for a Port Angeles Community Players production of a spoof of a classic horror tale.

“Dracula: The Musical?” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. April 28 and 29 and May 2, 5, 6, 9, 12 and 13, as well as at 2 p.m. April 30, May 7 and May 14, at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for students and children. On Tuesdays, seats may be reserved in advanced for the regular price, or unsold seats will be $8 at the door.

Tickets are available in advance at pacommunity players.com, where you can choose your seat, or purchase in person at Stage Right Vintage, 106 N. Laurel St., Port Angeles.

In the play, directed by Mark Lorentzen, the inhabitants of a madhouse are putting on a musical. The book, music and lyrics are by Rick Abbot.

“I first saw this production as a kid in Reno, Nev.,” Lorentzen said. “It was one of the most hilarious shows I’ve ever experienced. On top of that, it’s actually a really good musical.”

“Dracula: The Musical?” had its world premiere in New York City in 1966. Patrons stood in line in a blizzard for tickets. At its Australian premiere, every seat for every performance was sold, the community players said. The play is child-friendly, according to a news release.

Lorentzen assembled the experienced cast of Mindy Gelder as Nellie Norton, Luci Barrera as Mina Seward, Nicholas Fazio as Dr. Sam Seward, Anna Pederson as Bubu Padoop, Ken Winters as Boris Renfield, Benjamin Heintz as Dr. Van Helsing, Lydia Wilhelm as Sophie Seward and Jeremy Pederson as Count Dracula.

“Abbot, who is known for writing farce, has brilliantly turned and twisted the story we all know into a little gem of a musical that has it all: a toe-tapping score, romance, terror, wit and laughter,” Lorentzen said.

“It’s great fun and a can’t-miss musical comedy that only live theater can deliver.”
