Surfriders to lift glasses in celebration at Port Angeles winery tonight

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will host its International Surfing Day celebration at Harbinger Winery from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. today.

Tickets to the all-ages event at the winery at 2358 W. U.S. Highway 101 in Port Angeles are $20 for adults or $10 for students with an ID card. Children 12 and younger will be admitted free.

Complimentary glass

A ticket is good for one complimentary glass of beer, wine or soft drink provided by Harbinger Winery; a dinner provided by H2O Waterfront Bistro; and one raffle ticket.

Raffle and silent auction prizes include a Lib Tech surfboard, Gnu snowboard, art by Todd D. Fischer and other items.

Joy in Mudville will perform at the annual gathering, which serves as an outreach event and fundraiser for the Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.

Surfrider Foundation

The Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit organization that works to protect and preserve the worlds oceans, waves and beaches.

The Olympic Peninsula Chapter conducts water quality testing, sponsors beach cleanups, provides a barbecue for volunteers at the Hobuck Beach cleanup on Earth Day and maintains portable toilets at the Elwha, Lyre and Twin rivers.

The chapter also supports the Clallam County Marine Resources Committee’s Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training for oil spill response and works to enhance beach access by cleaning up parking lots and fixing potholes, among other projects.

Not limited to surfers

Membership to the Surfrider Foundation is not limited to surfers.

It is open to kayakers, beach users and anyone interested in protecting coastlines.
