PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center has three open calls for artists as it heads into the fall and winter programming.
The Fine Arts Center at 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., will host the Celebration of Shadows Fall Festival, a month of Light Art in Webster’s Woods and the holiday Makers Market and is seeking artist submissions for each.
“We look forward to these events each year, not only as exciting events for our community, but also as a chance to engage artists, highlight their work, and support their artistic livelihood. We are proud that last year 15 percent of our budget went directly back to artists,” said Christine Loewe, executive director, in a press release.
“By building on our collaboration with the Olympic Peninsula Authors, we are able to add a literary component to our fall festival; and with the help of a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment of the Arts we are able to support more light artists this year for the Wintertide Festival of Light, she said.
The center also has received funding from the Olympic Peninsula Visitors Bureau and the City of Port Angeles for marketing and event support.
“We encourage all artists to take advantage of the incredible event support we have this year and apply to one or more of the calls,” Loewe said.
• Creepy Tales — It soon will be that frightful time of year for tales of the eerie and unexplained, not just witches and ghosts but maybe also a family campfire story that left a chill.
The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center and Olympic Peninsula Authors are open for submissions of creepy stories and poems to be read aloud by their authors in the gallery courtyard during the Celebration of Shadows Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 22.
The deadline for submissions at Sept. 15. There is no entry fee.
Submissions should be no more than 1,000 words for stories or essays and no more than two pages for a poem.

• Wintertide Light Art — The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center seeks proposals for temporary or long-term light-based installations and artworks for installation in Webster’s Woods Sculpture Park.
Existing pieces as well as proposals for new works will be considered.
The deadline is Oct. 1.
The entry fee is $18.
The selected works will be exhibited from Nov. 25 thorugh Dec. 18 alongside more than 100 sculptures now standing throughout 5 acres of forested parkland, transforming the park with light and color through the darkest nights of the year.
Sculptures will be lit nightly from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Participating artists will be encouraged to join the center for live outdoor performances and a community celebration of light at the annual Wintertide Festival on Saturday, Dec. 10.

• Wintertide Makers Market — The Wintertide Makers Market connects shoppers with locally-made gifts.
In addition to supporting Olympic Peninsula artists, it is a key source of income for the nonprofit arts center.
It is open to all artists and artisans lliving in Clallam and Jefferson counties. The deadline is Oct. 15. There is no entry fee.
Items will be exhibited from Nov. 21 through Dec. 18.
