PORT ANGELES — Studium Generale will open its fall quarter series Thursday with the traditional Welcome Celebration, a partnership among the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, and Peninsula College.
The welcome, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 12:35 p.m. in Peninsula College’s Little Theater on the Port Angeles campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

The event will begin with a welcome from tribal partners who have collaborated to create this annual event and will be followed by a presentation by the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe.
“Cultural Resurrection — How Jamestown Grew its Cultural Programs in the Last Five Years” will be presented by yúčciʔə Alonah “Loni” R. Greninger, tribal council vice chairwoman and director of Social and Community Services.
The first longhouse built on a community college campus, the House of Learning is a gathering place to teach, learn, and share cultural traditions, knowledge, and identity, organizers said.
This annual Welcome event was founded by Lola Moses of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe in 2016, and in the past has featured language, culture, arts, and education.
