String and Shadow to perform show at fine arts center

PORT ANGELES — String and Shadow will present “Or So It Would Seam: A Giant Puppet Voyage into the Hidden Universe” at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The Olympia-based troupe will perform in Webster’s Woods at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Tickets are $20 per person, $14 for youths 18 or younger and are available at https://pafac.kindful.com/e/string-shadow-or-so-it-would-seam.

The show is written, created and performed by String and Shadow, a troupe of multi-disciplinary performance artists known for creating giant puppet shows set to live, original music.

The troupe uses paper-mache, cardboard, bamboo and cloth and other found and recycled materials to create the giant puppets and masks featured in its shows.

“We are very excited to welcome String and Shadow back to Webster’s Woods,” said Rachel Storck, the fine arts center’s community engagement director. “Last year’s performance of ‘Ship of Fools’ set a high bar for creative storytelling, and we can’t wait to see what these artists have put together for their newest production. It will be a fun and captivating show for people of all ages.”

“Or So It Would Seam,” the fifth original show by String and Shadow, will feature a cast of 13 performers/musicians.

The show combines equal parts whimsical fairy tale, outer-space odyssey and slap-stick clown show to follow Space-Way Assistance Driver Captain Z as a mysterious distress signal prompts him to enter a mystical dimension.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket, lawn chair and picnic into the meadow. Seating will begin at 5:30 p.m.
