Story tellers, lectures, drum circle set for Tuesday

Storytellers, lectures and a drum circle are planned on the North Olympic Peninsula on Tuesday.

Toothy Storytime

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Library System will host “Toothy Storytime” at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The program is at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Toothy Storytime features stories and tips on how to keep healthy teeth and gums.

The free early literacy program is designed for pre-schoolers and their caregivers.

Teen lounge

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Library System will host a teen lounge from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The lounge is open for young adults age 11 through 19 years at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

The free program runs Tuesdays through June 9 except for Feb. 25.

Senior dance

PORT ANGELES — Cat’s Meow will perform for a swing dance from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The dance will be in the Port Angeles Senior and Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

Refreshments will be served from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Admission is $5 per person; first-time attendees are admitted free.

Drum circle

PORT ANGELES — A community Drum Circle is set for 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The public is invited to join the circle at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1033 N. Barr Road.

No experience is necessary at this free community event.

Story swap

PORT ANGELES — Loren Niemi is the featured teller at Story Swap at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The monthly storytelling event is in the Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

The public is welcome at the free story swaps, held the third Tuesday of each month.

Snacks and socializing will begin at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a break at 8 p.m. for dessert.

Speaker series

PORT ANGELES — Tom Mumford will present “All Thing Kelp” from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The presentation is part of the speaker series at Feiro Marine Life Center, 315 N. Lincoln St.

Mumford will discuss the importance of kelp in the marine ecosystem.

Mumford is a retired botanist from the Department of Fish and Wildlife and sits on the Sanctuary Advisory Council for the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary.

Suggested donation is $5 per person, free for Feiro members.

Bird lecture

SEQUIM — Jim Karr will present “The Ascent of Birds” from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The free lecture is in the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.

The lecture series is based on the book “The Ascent of Birds: How Modern Science Is Revealing Their Story ” by John Reilly.

The lecture and discussion will cover “The Godwit’s Story: Quantum Compasses” and “The Hawk’s Story: Accidental Speciation.”

Volunteer orientation

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Marine Science Center will hold a volunteer information session from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The presentation will be in the center’s museum classroom, 532 Battery Way.

The center has opportunities ranging from greeting and interpreting at the aquarium and the museum to helping to maintain the aquariums and touch tanks.

Plant society to meet

PORT TOWNSEND — David Giblin will present “Revising Flora of the Pacific Northwest: What we learned and what is next” at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Giblin will address a meeting of the Olympic Chapter of the Native Plant Society at the Port Townsend Community Center, 620 Tyler St.

Giblin is the collections manager and research botanist at the University of Washington Herbarium at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture in Seattle.

The public is invited to attend the meeting that begins with social time at 6:30 p.m.

Book trivia

CHIMACUM — Jefferson County Library will host a trivia competition at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The competition is at The Keg & I, 1291 Chimacum Road.

An extra point will be awarded to teams who present their library cards.

Attendees must be 21 years old or older.

Tech Tuesday

PORT HADLOCK — Library staff will provide drop-in technical assistance from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
