Story crafters to meet, work on skills

PORT TOWNSEND — The Quimper Storytelling Guild will welcome aspiring and seasoned storytellers to Third Sunday StoryCrafting from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Stories will be told at the Port Townsend Public Library Learning Center, 1256 Lawrence St.

Oral exercises

Marti Haley and Cathy Thomas will lead participants in exercises for building stories for oral presentation.

The 14 attendees last month experimented with techniques from the book “From Plot to Narrative” by Elizabeth Ellis.

This month’s focus, pages 50 to 84, address storycrafting layers of point of view, emotion, connection, humor and wisdom.

Any story type allowed

Any story type can be used to explore the exercises and develop one’s craft as a teller.

Copies of the book are available online or locally; for more info, email QuimperStoryGuild@gmail.com.

The session will begin with general discussion and light refreshments. There will be time for one or two tellers to share short stories developed throughout the past month using techniques covered in the book.

Monthly meetings

The Quimper Storytelling Guild has been meeting monthly since March 2017 to foster the appreciate of the art and tradition of oral storytelling in the communities of Jefferson County.
