State poet laureate to visit Peninsula

Washington State Poet Laureate Claudia Castro-Luna will visit all four Clallam County public libraries and provide a series of poetry readings and workshops for adults and teens today and Saturday.

Castro-Luna will offer a poetry reading for adults and teens at 1 p.m. today at the Clallam Bay Library.

At 4 p.m. that day, she will conduct a bilingual workshop for adults and teens.

At 10:30 a.m. Saturday, she will conduct a poetry workshop at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., and at 1 p.m. Saturday she will offer a poetry reading at the Sequim Library at 1 p.m.

Claudia Castro Luna served as Seattle’s Civic Poet from 2015-17, and is the author of the Pushcart nominated “Killing Marías” (also shortlisted for Washington State 2018 Book Award in poetry), and “This City.” She also is the creator of the Seattle Poetic Grid.

Born in El Salvador, she came to the United States in 1981. She now is working on a memoir, “Like Water to Drink,” about her experience escaping the civil war in El Salvador. She writes and teaches in Seattle.

Her appearance at the North Olympic Library System libraries is supported by friends of the library groups.
