Special Music Live with Lunch show set Tuesday

PORT ANGELES — This month, organizers of Music Live with Lunch are changing the format.

Rather than playing a set at noon on the third Tuesday of the month, the Port Angeles High School Chamber Orchestra will play at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.

Tickets for the chamber orchestra show are $10 at the door or in advance at the church’s office from 9 a.m. to noon Monday and Tuesday, with proceeds supporting local, regional and global concerns.

The group will play a number of selections for 45 minutes in the sanctuary. Selections will include Handel’s overture from “Messiah,” Bach’s Allegro from Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, and John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s “Eleanor Rigby.”

Tea and cookies will precede the performance in the parish hall at 3 p.m.

The luncheon will return to its regular format at noon Feb. 20.

James Ray leads the chamber orchestra for the first year after seven years helping to build Port Angeles’ string program in elementary schools and in middle school.

Ray also serves as guest clinician and adjudicator for school string programs. As a violinist he’s served as a soloist and concertmaster with the Port Angeles Symphony, as a collaborator with the Northwest Women’s Chorale and the RainShadow Chorale, and a section violinist in the Salem Chamber Orchestra.

A former military bandsman, Ray also served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a keyboardist, percussionist, and rehearsal conductor.

For this show, he’ll lead several student musicians including on violin I: Lauren Rankin, concertmaster, Marley Cochran, Lum Fu, Meiqi Liang; violin II: Charlotte Hertel, principal, Sienna Porter, Emilyann Peterson, Shinia Kildall; Viola: Lauren Waldron, principal, Meghan Stinard, Rose Alexander, Madison Orth; Cello: Evan Cobb, principal, Madelynne Jones, Karson Nicpon, Senator Atwater; bass: Senator Atwater; Harp: Emilyann Peterson; flute: Tana Hiigel and Makena Merideth.
