Space theme of doll show on Saturday

PORT ANGELES — Dolls in Space is the theme of Just Dolls of Washington’s last doll and bear show, set for Saturday.

The show will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Admission is $2. Each person who brings a canned food item for the Port Angeles Food Bank will receive a free ticket for one of several door prizes.

The show’s theme was chosen because of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, said Barbara Lott, a member of the club.

It will be the last show, after several decades of annual shows, because of declining membership, Lott said.

More than 40 vendors will offer antique and modern dolls, bears, furniture and accessories.

The highlight of the show will be the drawing for the top door prize, the grand prize, which epitomizes the show’s theme.

Luciana Vega, the American Girl Doll for 2018, will be the prize.

Each American Girl Doll has a story. The one for this 18-inch doll is that she wants to be the first astronaut on Mars. She is dressed in an astronaut suit that is almost an exact duplication of a NASA suit, with an equipment pack, space boots, gloves and a helmet with a visor that flips up, Lott said.

Visitors can bring their own dolls for hair re-styling. The service is $2 per doll.

Proceeds from the grand prize drawing and the hair re-styling will be donated to the Peninsula Home Fund.
