Sister Speak duo to perform at Concerts in the Woods

COYLE — The two-person Sister Speak band will perform at Saturday’s Concerts in the Woods.

Sherri Anne, who heads Sister Speak, will perform with Sarven Manguiat at 7:30 p.m. at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road.

Admission is by donation. Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission to guests.

“Sister Speak is a very adaptable band,” said Norm Johnson, organizer of Concerts in the Woods.

“Originally from British Columbia and now residing in San Diego, Calif., Sherri Anne frequently plays in both the U.S. and Canada using bandmates she works with from both countries,” he said. “The band’s configuration adjusts to the venue from a reflective solo to a full out five-piece Alt/Indie/Blues band.”

At Saturday’s concert in Coyle, the configuration will be a duo with the folk/rock sound of two guitars and two voices as she is joined by Manguiat (lead guitar/harmonies) from Long Beach, Calif.

She formed Sister Speak in San Diego in 2009 with the vision “of a collaboration of musicians in support of the expression of the female voice in a genuine and authentic way,” according to her biography.

She was named one of the “Top 9 Rhythm Guitarists” in San Diego for her work on her album, “Rise Up For Love”and was awarded “Best Pop” at the San Diego Music Awards.
