Singer-songwriters to perform at Northwind

PORT TOWNSEND — Northwind Arts Center will welcome Portland, Ore., singer-songwriters Cal Scott and Richard Moore for an evening of original songs and a few classics at 7 tonight.

Tickets are $20 at Northwind Arts Center, from scottmoorenorthwind.brownpapertickets.com or at the door, 701 Water St.

A little history: In Portland in the early 1970s, three Lewis and Clark College students — Cal Scott, Richard Moore and Markie Post — got together to sing a few songs for their classmates. Post left for Hollywood, but Scott and Moore keep singing, together and apart, building careers in and around the music business.

Scott, a multi-instrumentalist, led several popular rock and jazz bands and began a career composing scores for film and video, including many award-winning PBS documentaries, organizers said.

He was also musical director for The Trail Band for more than 25 years.

After touring Asia and Europe as a musician, Moore became a leader in Portland’s recording industry and is known for his voice work on commercials for major businesses such as Fred Meyer and Comcast, organizers said.

He also wrote the words and music for a stage musical about Portland and has released four CDs of original songs.

Nine years ago they joined musical forces again to host a bimonthly songwriter circle, inviting other Portland musicians to join them.
