Singer-songwriter Greeninger to perform at Palindrome in Port Townsend

Artist has won top awards; Jenner Fox to be special guest

PORT TOWNSEND — Rainshadow Concerts will present singer-songwriter Keith Greeninger with special guest Jenner Fox at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

The concert will be at the Palindrome at Eaglemount Cidery, 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road in Port Townsend.

Tickets are $20 each from brownpapertickets.com or at the door. Proof of vaccination is required for entry.

Greeninger, who is based in Santa Cruz, Calif., will perform his original songs.

Here is a sample:

“I’m a glorious peasant, I’m a passionate fool

“I’m a hard-workin’ brown dirt poet, ain’t never finished school

“I’ve been livin’ on the outskirts, by a different set of rules

“I’ve been learning from my elders, I’ve been gatherin’ up my tools”

— Glorious Peasant

Greeninger has earned top songwriting awards at the Telluride Blue Grass Festival, The Kerrville Folk Festival and The Napa Valley Folk Festival.

He has toured the national folk and Americana circuit extensively for more than two decades, performing at festivals and legendary venues, appeared on countless national radio shows and shared stages with dozens of the country’s best-known artists.

Fox, the special guest, comes from a family of river guides in Sisters, Ore. He has produced five albums of original songs.

With his guitar, Fox, in the words of producer Cookie Marenco, “combines the lyricism of Joni Mitchell and the commentary of Neil Young to represent the next generation of singer-songwriters.”

Greeninger, who uses his carpentry skills to support his music, traveled to Nicaragua to help build schools and housing for people who had been displaced by the U.S.-backed Contra war.

In the evenings, he listened to stories and songs from his fellow local workers.

“While rains fell down on the humble hopes and dreams, I can no longer claim innocence from the things that I have seen,” he wrote of that experience.

His first solo album, “Wind River Crossing,” was released in 1997. After helping to put together a music festival in British Columbia called The Gathering at Island Lake, he recorded his second solo album, “Back to You.”

“Glorious Peasant,” released in 2006, was his third album. “Make it Rain” was released in 2010. His newest release is “Human Citizen.”

Greeninger also produces music for other artists at his Wind River Studios recording facility in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
