Singer, songwriter at Rosewind Common House

PORT TOWNSEND — New York- and Vermont-based singer and songwriter John O’Connor will appear in concert at 7 tonight at the Rosewind Common House.

Requested donation at the door will be $15, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds at the Common House, 3131 Haines St.

Reservations are strongly advised by sending an email to cbricker1@mac.com.

Since O’Connor appeared on the scene more than three decades ago with his acclaimed “Songs of our Times,” his songs have become legendary, being recorded and sung by such icons of the folk world as Ewan MaColl and Peggy Seeger, Guy Carawan and Norman Blake, according to a press release.

His songs have been recorded throughout the world by such artists as Scotland’s Arthur Johnstone, Ireland’s the Fureys and France’s Renaud, who took an adaptation of O’Connor’s “North by North” to No. 1 on the charts.

After O’Connor took a 20-year hiatus from touring and recording to work as a union organizer, his “Rare Songs” highlights what Geoffrey Himes has called his “sturdy songs.”

He has recorded five previous albums, including his debut on Flying Fish Records, “Songs of our Times.”

The Rosewind Common House is a shoes-off and fragrance-free facility. Concert attendees are invited to bring slippers if they wish.

A short break is planned between sets, so concertgoers are invited to bring a light snack, dessert or drink to share.
