Shopping, activities set Saturday in Port Townsend

Deals, Choo Choo, swag-making offered

Small Business Saturday participants will offer a slew of deals and events after Black Friday wraps up today.

The day after Thanksgiving, commonly known as Black Friday, is traditionally the biggest shopping day of the season. However, Small Business Saturday on the day after Black Friday is increasing in popularity.

In Jefferson County, Port Townsend businesses in Uptown and Downtown will offer special deals during Small Business Saturday.

The campaign is sponsored by the Port Townsend Main Street Program, participating businesses, the City of Port Townsend and Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC), New American Funding, and Richmond American Homes.

Saturday will be the first day of the season that the Kiwanis Choo Choo rolls through town. It also will be out on Dec. 3 and Dec. 10.

A large festival tent at Tyler Plaza will be in place and decorated Saturday to provide a comfortable venue to get a meal-to-go or a hot drink and have a seat out of the elements while shopping.

A free workshop for making Christmas swag (wreath-like decorations made from pine branches) is planned from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the heated tent.

Caroling with the Wild Rose Chorale will be on the streets from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Winners of the merchant window decorating contest will be announced.

Port Townsend’s tree-lighting ceremony will be at dusk Dec. 3 at Haller Fountain.

That day also will feature caroling with the Wild Rose Chorale, an opportunity to make and take home ornaments at the Tyler Street Plaza tent and photo opps with Santa and the Kiwanis Choo Choo by Flagship Landing.

On Dec. 10 will be last-minute holiday gift wrapping by Kiwanis Key Club/Rotary Interact Club students at the heated tent.

Winners of the annual Uptown Gingerbread Contest at the Port Townsend Public Library will be announced Dec. 22.
