SEQUIM — Susan B. Anthony. Alice Paul. Shirley Chisholm. Bella Abzug. Sojourner Truth. Fannie Hurst.
These are women who overcame societal conditions of inequality to make significant contributions to the nation through courage, imagination and conviction.
Their stories will be brought to life in “Shattered Ceilings,” a theatrical performance that celebrates women who were involved with the Suffrage Movement and those who shattered their own personal ceilings — for themselves and women who followed.
Two performances of the play, presented under the direction of Sequim resident Carol Swarbrick Dries, are planned at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. March 18 at the Old Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2741 Towne Road, Sequim.
The performances are part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Clallam County League of Women Voters.
Tickets are $20 each, available now at https://lwvcla.brownpapertickets.com/, Port Book and News in Port Angeles, and the Visitor Information Center at the Sequim Chamber of Commerce. If available, tickets at the door will be $25.
In addition, a historical exhibit of the League of Women Voters’ work in Clallam County during the past 50 years will be open to the public free from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Old Dungeness Schoolhouse. Refreshments will be available.
The national League of Women Voters, an outgrowth of the women’s suffrage movement, was formed in 1920 as a nonpartisan civic organization to educate the public and to assure the success of democracy.
The Clallam County League was formed in 1968, and since that date has worked to encourage local citizens to register to vote, become well-informed voters, and participate in all levels of government.
