SEQUIM — Two Sequim authors will share excerpts from their works at 6:30 this evening as part of the monthly Fourth Friday Readings, produced by Writers on the Spit.

The free event, taking place in the Media Room at The Lodge at Sherwood Village, 660 Evergreen Farm Way, begins at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m., with beverages available for purchase.

Both speakers — Terry L. Moore and Howard Chadwick — are outdoorsmen with a wide range of experiences incorporated into their poetry and essays, according to a news release.

Moore has a treasure chest of experiences from life in more than three dozen national and international locations, according to the release.

Varied and challenging

From farm to petroleum refinery, military base to missile silo, laboratory to cattle ranch, aircraft to sailboat, his interests and employments have been varied and challenging.

Moore said writing is akin to a magic carpet of paper and pen that takes him wherever his subconscious wills. He will be reading from his newest collection, “Fiction, Mostly,” a work in progress.

Chadwick has worked as a farmhand, fire lookout, explosive ordnance disposal officer, analyst and researcher for the Department of Interior, according to the release.

Also an artist

As an artist, Chadwick painted murals and backdrops for local theater groups.

Chadwick’s steam engine mural on the back of Angeles Machine Works in Port Angeles, at Second and Peabody streets, is nearly 20 years old, faded, but still a handsome piece, according to the release.

Chadwick began writing storytelling poetry when he retired, finding it to be great therapy, he said.

He will read from his collection, “Frog Legs.”

An hour of five-minute open mic readings will follow the two guest speakers.

Interested writers should come early to submit their names.
