Sequim, Port Townsend writers to read Friday during monthly event

SEQUIM — Authors Dianne Knox and Jane Evans will read a selection of their works this evening during Fourth Friday Readings, a monthly gathering organized by Writers on the Spit.

The readings will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the media room at The Lodge at Sherwood, 660 Evergreen Farm Way, Sequim.

The event is free to attend and open to the public.

An hour of five-minute open mic readings will follow the two speakers.

Those interested in participating in the open mic session should come early to submit their names. Doors open at 6 p.m.

For guidelines, contact lindabmyers@yahoo.com.

Interactive poem

During the event, Knox will present an interactive poem.

Knox, of Sequim, embraces many interests including hiking, Tai Chi, yoga, the Seahawks and artwork, according to a news release.

But it is writing that offers “the greatest freedom to be yourself and put a voice to life’s possibilities and challenges,” Knox said.

“As a writer, you aren’t living just one life, but as many as you have time to put down on paper.”

A graduate of the University of Iowa, Knox has traveled the world — even living for a time in Singapore, according to the release.

Her works have been published in Tidepools, the literary magazine of Peninsula College.

Penn State grad

Evans, of Port Townsend, is a graduate of Penn State and the University of Pittsburgh. She has taught English, worked as a college librarian and edited research papers, according to the news release.

She said she enjoyed reading to her two sons, but that “the most fun I have had with writing is in composing poetry.”

Writers on the spit is an organization that intends to connect writers to writers, provide resources and tools and to inspire and support writers on the Olympic Peninsula with respect and encouragement, according to www.writersonthespit.com.
