Sequim First Friday Art Walk features puppets, paintings, repurposed art

SEQUIM — The Sequim First Friday Art Walk goes green this month as it highlights puppets, paintings and repurposed art.

First Friday Art Walk Sequim is a free self-guided tour of local art venues in Sequim from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. the first Friday of every month.

Each month has a color theme. March’s theme is green for imagination, said organizer Renne Emiko Brock.

The color represents new ideas, wellness, youthful pursuits, generous support, nurturing natures and eternal good spirits, she said.

“You will discover newfangled art and imaginative folks supporting the option to decorate and dress in all shades of green while you stroll on the town with friends,” she added.

Among the activities planned tonight is a free performance of traditional German “Pappenspiel” puppets by Max Eberhard Eichner at 5:30 p.m. at Olympic Theatre Arts at 414 N. Sequim Ave.

Traveling via bicycle from Bellingham and stopping to spread the joy of theater along the way, Eichner uses traditionally made paper puppets to tell classic fairy tales and fables from the likes of Brothers Grimm and Jean de La Fontaine.

Other special events for tonight’s Art Walk are planned.

• Bag Ladies of Sequim, 161 W. Washington St., will teach visitors more about “green” repurposed art and the unique process of the artists.

• Lamb Farm Kitchen, 272 W. Bell St., will feature artist Jean Wyatt and her bright and cheerful paintings, drawings and handmade journals.

“I like to create art that makes me smile and happy when I look at it,” said Wyatt, who will be present for the Art Walk.

“It is meant to be colorful, fun, whimsical, unusual and often a little off-beat.”

• Rainshadow Café, 157 W. Cedar St., will have a Sip & Paint with Todd D. Fischer that visitors can participate in or witness artists at work.

Those who want to paint were asked to make reservations before today with Fischer at sawltybum@gmail.com.

Others are urged to come to the café to see painting in action.

• Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., will present “figures and concepts glowing in prism and rhythm.”

Lynne Armstrong and Suzanne Eller will be featured. In the March front windows, Armstrong’s focus will be on figures while Eller will display various assemblage sculptures.

• Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., will feature pianist and vocalist Dawn Martin performing a variety of classic favorites from 7 to 9 tonight.

Martin has played in a variety of bands throughout the Olympic Peninsula.
