Sequim author at Jim’s Pharmacy today

PORT ANGELES — Michael Bunnell, author of the novels “American Gypsy” and “The Friendly Little War of Lyman Cutler,” will meet readers and sign copies of his books at Jim’s Pharmacy today.

Bunnell will be at the pharmacy at 424 E. Second St., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bunnell has published hundreds of magazine articles and essays, three novels and two ghost-written memoirs. He has also written screenplays, TV scripts and a one-act stage play.

Shortly after settling in Sequim 10 years ago, he was instrumental in founding Skookum Bay Publishing LLC.

The first offering from the new company was his own novel “The Friendly Little War of Lyman Cutler,” adapted from one of his screenplays.

Skookum Bay Publishing has since released three more books, including Bunnell’s novel “American Gypsy,” and has two nonfiction works in the “pre-press” phase of publication.

Both of Bunnell’s novels from Skookum Bay Publishing tap into elements of his own life.

As a boy on San Juan Island, he lived briefly on the site of actual events which inspired his humorous historical novel, “The Friendly Little War of Lyman Cutler.”

Later he spent time among gypsies and ex-carnies whose tales of life outside the mainstream from the 1930s through the 1960s inspired his second novel.

Skookum Bay Publishing’s books are found in the gifts and souvenirs department at Jim’s Pharmacy, where today will be Customer Appreciation Day.

For more information, email Skookum Bay Publishing at sbaybooks@olypen.com or call Bunnell at 360-681-2686.
