SEQUIM — The First Art Walk will have heart, with red as its color theme.
Art Walk is a free self-guided tour that leads participants to local art venues in Sequim on the first Friday of every month. It will be from 5 to 8 tonight.
Each month has a color theme, and February’s is red, representing “active endeavors, passionate affection, increased excitement and driven leadership,” said Renne Emiko Brock, who has sponsored and produced the monthly event since 2006 through unique as you.
“An evening filled with love, red apparel and rosy cheeks incorporates warm hearts, virtues of fine wine and sweet treats,” Brock said.
”It is also National Wear Red Day to increase awareness of heart health.
“You will find works of art and folks supporting the option to decorate and dress in all shades of red from blush to burgundy for the evening out on the town.”

Here are some special events planned tonight:
• Blue Whole Gallery at 129 W. Washington St. will showcase longtime member Karin Anderson as the featured artist for the month of February.
Anderson’s mixed-media paintings and three-dimensional assemblage pieces will be exhibited in the front windows.
“Her colorful, multifaceted award-winning artwork has been an inspiration to many,” Brock said.
Upon her husband’s retirement this spring, the Andersons will leave the Pacific Northwest for Santa Fe, N.M., Brock-Richmond said.
“While I’m excited about the future, this show reflects where I’ve been and how far I’ve come as an artist here in this place,” Anderson told Brock.
• Lamb Farm Kitchen at 272 W. Bell St. behind the Oak Table will present Jean Wyatt’s acrylic paintings, colored pencil art and journals.
Wyatt will be present to tell stories of her art.
“Jean’s work is colorful, fun, whimsical, unusual and often a little offbeat,” Brock said.
• Sequim Spice and Tea at 139 W Washington St. will host singer and artist Priscilla Patterson.
Along with her paintings, Patterson is showcasing songs from her new CD, “Wonderful World!”
• Sequim Library at 630 N. Sequim Ave. will celebrate the opening of a new Art in the Library exhibit with an artists reception and a concert.
The reception for featured artist Jerry Owie will begin at 6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., rock and blues duo Allyn Guthrie will perform their “acoustic rock and blues with attitude,” with vocals, harmonies, acoustic and slide guitar, and mandolin backup.
Limited library services also will be available during this special after-hours reception.
The Art in the Library exhibit will be on display through May 30.
Owie is a Sequim-based artist who was born in Benin City, Nigeria. He has worked in metal fabrication, fashion, furniture design and fabrication, chain-saw carving and wood and stone chisel carving. His paintings and drawings are inspired by nature as well as life’s day-to-day activities and struggles, the library said in a news release.
• Wind Rose Cellars at 143 W Washington St. will host Hot Llamas, a bluegrass/newgrass band with a mixture of musicians from Sequim and Port Angeles, while offering wines with appetizers.
• Olympic Theatre Arts at 414 N. Sequim Ave. will present Pamela Ziemann’s “If I Were Me … I’d Know What I Want,” a one-woman show about finding your voice.
The one-hour show will begin at 5 p.m.
Ziemann plays seven characters, all based on her life. She is the author of “Giving Voice to Your Cause” and a 2011 International Book Awards winner for social change.
• The Oasis at 301 E. Washington St. will welcome Sequim artist Sandra Kasper tonight.
Kasper’s work ranges from impressionism to abstract and minimalism in watercolors, pastels, acrylics and mixed mediums.
She has been a member of the Blue Whole Gallery in Sequim, Heatherton Gallery in Port Angeles, and Liberty Bay Gallery in Poulsbo.
