SEQUIM — First Friday Art Walk will celebrate the return of spring flowers and birds from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight.
First Friday Art Walk Sequim is a free, self-guided tour of local art venues in Sequim on the First Friday of each month. Visit online at SequimArtWalk.com to download and print a map and find special events and links.
The color theme this month is pink.
The Sequim City Arts Advisory Commission is partnering with the Dungeness River Audubon Center to host the 2018 Audubon Society’s Best Avian Photography.
Photographs will be on exhibit at the Sequim Civic Center at 152 W. Cedar St. The winning photographers and their photographs were selected from more than 8,000 entries submitted by photographers from all 50 states, Washington D.C., and 10 Canadian provinces.
This year’s photographs celebrate the splendor of many bird species protected under the 100-year-old Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
Bonnie Block, the 2016 grand prize winner with a photo of an eagle and great blue heron taken in Seabeck Washington Arboretum in Seattle, will be in attendance for the exhibition opening to talk about each photo in the show.
Other venues are:
• Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., will feature “Don’t Fool with Mother Nature” exhibition by artists Lucinda Hayes, Debbie Patapoff and Kathy Schreiner.
Hayes will curate a front window with her collection of paintings. Patapoff and Schreiner will curate another window with their fine art jewelry.
• Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., will host artist Carolyn Votaw and live music with Bread and Gravy.
“Far Shores: New works by Carolyn Votaw” is an exhibition of monotype impressions of natural treasures collected from the far shores of the Olympic Peninsula.
It also features a selection of miniature linocut prints inspired by the Pacific Northwest through May.
Bread and Gravy are a husband and wife team bringing a mixture of songs from the 1970s to the 1990s.
• Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., will feature Russian-born actor and musician Dmitri Gerasimenko in non-verbal performance art and Russian poetry and music at 5:30 p.m. in the Gathering Hall.
Gerasimenko grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia. By age 10, he was participating in the professional theater world there. He now lives in Port Angeles with his wife, Jan Adams, and his 11-year old son,Oleg.
First Friday at Olympic Theatre Arts is always free to the public where the snack and beverage bar will be open.
• Forage Gifts & Northwest Treasures, 121 W. Washington St., will feature artist Jean Wyatt with her art that includes acrylic paintings, colored pencil art and hand-crafted journals.
• Pondicherri, 119 E. Washington St., will showcase painter Tami Wall along with carefully-designed, hand-crafted textiles for home and fashion in their curated boutique.
• Sequim Museum & Arts, 175 W. Cedar St., will host “Memories,” the solo exhibition of local watercolorist Patrick D. Clark.
A member of the Kansas Watercolor Society, the American Watercolor Society and the American Watercolor Society, Clark exhibited artwork at street fairs throughout the nation from 1983 to 2014. He moved with his wife, Nancy, to Sequim in 2013.
• Cedarbrook Lavender, 134½ W. Washington St., will showcase
“In the Pink!” with hand-made gifts and uplifting lavender.
• Rainshadow Café, 157 W. Cedar St., will present live music with Donna Rankin and Mary Clock.
Their genre has its roots in folk, rock, country and gospel.
• Alder Wood Bistro, 139 W. Alder St., will show the work of Susan Gansert Shaw, from stems and stacks to pears and pleasure.
• Pacific Pantry, 229 S. Sequim Ave., will exhibit the work of Lynne Armstrong who finds her inspiration in “the faces of strangers, and the power and beauty of the everyday.”
• The Tangled Gourd, 861 E. Alder St., will showcase gourds and polymer clay art by Chawn Vance.
Her detailed work uses Zentangle to create a unique art form used to create images from repetitive patterns.
• Tracy Wealth Management, 149 W. Washington St., will present Shirley Rudolf and her art students displaying their artwork in acrylics, watercolors and oils.
Artists participating along with Rudolf are Barb Diekfuss, Eva Hildago, Roger Huntley, Jerri Moore and Susan Zoya.
