PORT ANGELES — Art walks, for the most part, promote an easy pace. You can visit galleries at your leisure and spend hours admiring a single piece of art if you wish.
This weekend’s Second Weekend Art Walk in Port Angeles will still afford you this opportunity — or you can choose to accept a challenge, still artistic in nature but quicker in pace.
Your challenge: Win a random name drawing. Pick your Pandora station. Accept your audience-chosen theme. Paint like nobody’s watching.
Your time: 15 minutes.
Your materials: Brushes, paint and a 32-by-48-inch primed board.
“Brush Off,” an impromptu speed painting performance, randomly selects six artists to create a masterpiece on deadline and vie for the popular vote.
The winner will receive a cash prize supplied from audience donations. All six paintings earn their rightful place in Studio Bob’s new outdoor alley gallery for 365 days.
The fourth annual competition this Saturday will be one of the events to see at Port Angeles’ upcoming Second Weekend Art Walk, which starts today and lasts through Sunday.
Those who wish to try their hand at 15-minute painting must go to Studio Bob, upstairs at 118½ E. Front St., between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday to put their names in a hat.
The lucky six will be announced at 7 p.m.
During the competition, a no-host bar will serve drinks in The Loom next to the studio.
Also planned this weekend:
• Dove Studio, 111 N. Oak St., will feature owner Jan Dove’s prints, drawings and artist books.
Dove attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work includes digital and traditional prints; artist books, bound by hand; and digitally produced figure studies.
Two of Dove’s books/installations stand on display at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 Peabody St.
Dove Studio will be open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the art walk, Dove will demonstrate book-binding techniques.

• Imagine It Framed, 625 E. Front St., will feature botanical watercolor artist Andrea Woods.
Woods has instructed botanical art in drawing, watercolor and color pencils, exhibiting broadly in the U.S.
Beyond acclaim in the Pacific Northwest, Woods’ art also has earned recognition in California. Her work was selected for Alcatraz Florilegium of the restored gardens on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay.
Imagine It Framed will host a meet-the-artist reception from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Woods’ art will be on display through Sept. 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

• Harbor Art, 110 E. Railroad Ave., will showcase the original work of 14 local artists, including photography, paintings, block prints, sculpture, wood work, ceramics, glass, felting and jewelry.
Harbor Art will be open Saturday for the art walk, holding an artists’ reception from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
