PORT ANGELES — Catch a live performance by the Weedwackers, view art from local artists and take a stroll through downtown Port Angeles this weekend during the Second Weekend Art Event.
The monthly event, taking place the second weekend of each month, was founded about 10 years ago by the Port Angeles Arts Council as a coalition of downtown Port Angeles businesses and art galleries to bring attention to the culture and variety offered there, organizers say.
Here’s a cross section of events:
• Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., at 9 tonight will host a live performance by the Weedwackers — a psychedelic jam band made up of local jazz musicians — as part of 2nd Friday Art Rock.
Also in attendance will be Jane Van Atta, a first-time artist-in-residence at 2FAR who will weave three-dimensional sculptures out of copper wire to the live music. Jeff Tocher will be joining her to add his signature color, wit and whimsy. These two will help round out the spontaneity at this live event.

• Karon’s Frame Center, 625 E. Front St., this month will exhibit the works of Dorothea Morgan, 91, of Port Angeles.
At age 17, Morgan was taken by the Nazis and for two years was forced to work in sugar beet fields, and for German industrial corporations Siemens and Krups.
When the Germans abandoned their camp in Grüdonnerstag on Good Friday, Morgan was one of the many left to fend for themselves.
Donning a dress made from a Nazi flag, Morgan got a job with the Americans in Wiesbaden.
She later found her mother and grandmother outside of Nuremberg and got a job working in Gen. George S. Patton’s unit, where she said she met a G.I. from Tennessee named Brigham Morgan, fell in love and got married.
She and her husband moved around the country with their five sons and one daughter with the Army, living in Massachusetts, Tennessee, Alaska — where she survived the earthquake of 1964 — and then Port Angeles.

• Harbor Art Gallery, 110 E. Railroad Ave., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday will feature the original work of 16 local artists. Works include photography, paintings, block prints, sculpture, wood work, ceramics, glass and jewelry. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/harborartgallery.
• Heatherton Gallery, located inside The Landing mall at 115 E. Railroad Ave., from 5:30 to 7:30 this evening will host an artist reception for Hideko Kano Goecker, this month’s featured artist at the gallery.
The Gallery exhibits unique jewelry, oils, acrylics, pottery, wood carvings, marquerty and photography. It is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays.

• Landing Artists Studio, 115 E. Railroad Ave., from 5:30 to 7:30 this evening will feature the acrylic paintings and collages of Linda Stadtmiller, as well as pine needle baskets and unique bird houses by Larry Bennett. Both artists will be on hand to greet the public.
Light refreshments will be served.
Stadtmiller attended college in California where she received a degree in Art History. She is a past president of the Olympic Peninsula Art Association and past board member and organizer of Art Shows at the Museum &Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley.
In May 2015, Stadtmiller suffered a major stroke and although she lost much of the use of her dominant left hand she has successfully continued to create her artwork using her right hand, according to the release.
Stadtmiller said she views this as a positive challenge rather than a disability, feeling that changing the hand she creates with has made her look at her art with fresh eyes.
Bennett, of Port Angeles, has won numerous awards for his needle baskets in local juried art shows on the Peninsula for more than thirty years, according to the release.
These baskets are made from pine needles gathered from eastern Washington and the state of Georgia. Each basket is skillfully sewn together by hand using split raffia strands.
He also makes unique bird houses from local items collected from his walks around town and the beach.
The Landing Artists Studio is located on the lower floor of The Landing mall.

• Studio Bob, an art gallery/event space located upstairs at 118 1/2 E. Front St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday will host an artist’s reception for Dani La Blond and her series of acrylic on canvas paintings titled “Lost Balls.”
The series was inspired by photos La Blond has taken throughout the years of lost balls found in a wide variety of settings, according to a news release.
In addition to the paintings, La Blond also will have ceramics, photographs and mixed media pieces that include other “lost” items.
