Second Saturday Art Walk set this weekend

Featured artist’s series inspired by national park

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Arts Council will sponsor the Second Saturday Art Walk from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. this weekend at various downtown venues.

Visitors who collect stamps on an Art Walk Passport from half of the participating venues will be entered into a raffle for a 12-inch, cold-hammered, flame-painted copper salmon on a copper table stand.

The Art Walk Passport can be picked up and returned at any Second Saturday Art Walk location.

During Saturday’s Art Walk, the Harbor Art Gallery, 114 N. Laurel St., will feature the paintings of Garret S. DelaBarre from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Summer trip

Boldly using line and color, DelaBarre draws inspiration from nature while embracing the spontaneity of the painting process.

His newest series, which was inspired by a summer trip to Grand Teton National Park, reflects the majesty of the mountains while leaning into magical and impressionistic qualities that captivated him.

“The beauty and grandeur of this region is beyond my ability to capture as a photographer might,” DelaBarre said. “So I focus on the elements that moved me. I try not to overwork my paintings, letting color and form define the image, even if it isn’t exactly what I intended. It is what it is.”

DelaBarre describes his style as impressionistic, exaggerating line and color to highlight feeling rather than detail.

A Port Angeles resident since 1989, DelaBarre holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from California State University, Fresno, and has been a member of the Harbor Art Gallery Cooperative since 2017.

DelaBarre’s paintings will be on display from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays during September at Harbor Art Gallery.
