Second Saturday Art Walk set for this weekend

PORT ANGELES — The Second Saturday Art Walk is set from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at participating Port Angeles businesses.

Galleries participating in the free monthly self-guided tour include:

• The 8th Street Emporium, 238 W. Eighth St., will host Nancy Shores demonstrating the use of a peg loom from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Peg loom is a basic form of weaving that can be used with a variety of yarns, recycled fabric, sheep fleece and even plastic bags to create items such as rugs, wall hangings, seat pads, blankets, mattress covers and wearable art.

• Harbor Art Gallery, 114 N. Laurel St., will host a reception for featured artists Haley and Lance Snider from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Throughout August, Haley and Lance will exhibit works that showcase a variety of mediums and materials, including driftwood, wire, watercolor swatches, charcoal and pastel, all with an underlying theme of music.

Haley is an abstract artist who works mostly in watercolor and acrylic and tends to favor the blue and green color palette of the ocean and mountains. Her goal is to bypass thought and go straight to emotion, so her favorite compliments on her artwork are usually some variation of, “It just makes me feel good when I look at it.”

Lance’s medium of choice is charcoal, although he loves to dabble in pen, watercolor and digital illustration.

Recently he’s been using wire to create 3D sculptures to introduce his audience to the many intricate worlds of his imagination.

Harbor Art Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

• Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St., will host an opening reception for its fifth Bring Your Own Erotic Art Show from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The annual art show will be on display through Aug. 31.

The free dog-friendly reception is open to adults 18 and older.

• The Hub, 117 N. Lincoln St., invites the public to watch its resident artists create art in its workshop during the Art Walk. Participants also are welcome to bring their own easel or drawing pad and hang out in the entertainment area to work on their own material.

Second Saturday Art Walk is sponsored by the Port Angeles Arts Council and the Downtown Waterfront District. For more information, call 360-775-2158 or visit www.portangelesartscouncil.org.
