Schedule for Port Townsend Community Read boasts events through March

PORT TOWNSEND — The 2019 Community Read book is “Piano Tide” by Kathleen Dean Moore.

Each event of the month-long program is free and open to the public.

Saturday

• 2 p.m. — Phina Pipia directs the Library Children’s Choir in a concert of folk, classical, opera, rock and “Earth-loving songs,” First Baptist Church, 1202 Lawrence St., next to the library.

• 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. — Opening reception for “Response/Ability,” juried art show open through March at the Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St.

Sunday

• 1 p.m. — “Alone in the Wilderness,” a movie about one man’s dream to live in a pristine land, build a log cabin and be in alignment with the world, screens at the Uptown Theatre, 1120 Lawrence St.

Monday

• 2 p.m. — A “Book Lovers’ Cafe” discussion of “Piano Tide” is open at the Library Learning Center, aka the Pink House, 1256 Lawrence St.

March 11

• 2 p.m. — A community book discussion is open at Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor St.

March 13

• 7 p.m. — One more community book discussion takes place at Discovery Bay Brewing, 948 N. Park Ave.

March 14

• 7 p.m. — “Earth Repair Song and Science,” an interactive program and sing-along with permaculturist Michael “Skeeter” Pilarski, plus a preview of the May 3-May 5 Global Earth Repair Conference, take place in the Port Townsend Library’s Carnegie Reading Room.

March 16

• Noon to 4 p.m. — Hikers of all ages are invited to walk the Story Trail at Kah Tai Lagoon, starting from the trailhead on Landis Street or on Kearney Street. Pages from a story will be posted along the way; participants can explore any time between noon and 4 p.m. Children must be accompanied by adults.

March 21

• 7:30 p.m. — The PT Shorts performers from Key City Public Theatre read excerpts aloud from “Piano Tide” at the Northwind Arts Center.

March 27

• 7 p.m. — “Piano Tide” author Kathleen Dean Moore and pianist Rachelle McCabe present “A Call to Life,” a musical and spoken word concert calling people to action on behalf of Earth at Trinity United Methodist Church.

March 28

• 6:30 p.m. — Moore and McCabe appear in a meet-the-author event including a discussion and book signing at the Port Townsend High School auditorium, 1500 Van Ness. Imprint Books of Port Townsend will have Moore’s books available for purchase.

March 29

• 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. — Moore hosts “The Work of a Writer in a World of Wounds,” a writers’ workshop for activists at the Pink House. Space is limited and participants are urged to register at 360-385-3181.
