Savory Port Townsend delights offered at food festival Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Farmers Market will host the fourth annual Port Townsend Artisan Food Festival on Saturday.

The festival will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the farmers market at Tyler and Lawrence streets and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Propolis Brewing at 2457 Jefferson St.

The free community celebration of local and artisan food will bring together more than 75 farm, artisan food and craft vendors; local chefs; and live music.

“We have a great lineup of visiting vendors which highlight the diversity of our local food on the Olympic Peninsula,” said Amanda Milholland, director and market manager.

“This is a great event to attend hungry, as there will be so many flavors to savor.”

The Port Townsend Farmers Market is a weekly celebration of local and artisan food that takes place in uptown Port Townsend nine months out of the year.

“For the Artisan Food Festival, the market will highlight the local and regional food that makes our community such a special place to live and eat,” Milholland said.

Starting at 9 a.m., chef Arran Stark of Jefferson Healthcare will shop the market for seasonal produce to use in his chef demonstration, which will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Following Stark, chefs Kelly Bell of Gray Wolf Ranch and Gabriel Schuenemann of Alder Wood Bistro in Sequim will prepare local food from the market for visitors to sample and to inspire home cooking.

In addition to the chef demonstrations, Mt. Townsend Creamery cheese will be paired with tastes from the market, Milholland said.

Visiting artisan food vendors will include Green Heart Smoothie, Eagles Song Health and Wellness, Sputnik’s Fries, Flutter By Pizza Pie, Barbarian Fine Cuisine and Lioness Organics.

The Port Townsend Cooperative Playschool will host activities for children on the community center grass.

Visitors also can take their photos as part of the Flora poster — the poster that graces the Port Townsend Farmers Market’s first collectible poster, created in 2003 — and listen to live music scattered throughout the market.

In the evening, the festival will move to Propolis Brewing from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for dancing, artisan food, craft beer, local cider, live music and children’s activities.

Abakis will perform at 6 p.m., followed by Dirty Beet Duo at 8 p.m.

Visiting food vendors will include Fiddlehead Creamery, La Crepe de Quimper, the Salmon Wagon, Barbarian Fine Cuisine and Flutter By Pizza Pie.
