PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend downtown art galleries will stay open until 8 p.m. Saturday with special exhibits for the Saturday Art Walk.
Among them are the Grover Gallery and Jeanette Best Gallery of the Northwind Art, Gallery 9, Aurora Loop Gallery and the Port Townsend Gallery.
• “Psychedelic Summer” is the show on now at Grover Gallery, 236 Taylor St.
Local painters Virginia Ashby and Herman James have dozens of color-soaked works on display at the gallery, which is open noon to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays and until 8 p.m. for this Saturday’s Art Walk.
• “Outside In” is the new exhibition of large-scale bird and landscape photography by Kerry Tremain and Brian Goodman and sculptures by Sara Mall Johani and the late Tom Jay at Jeanette Best Gallery, 701 Water St., Port Townsend.
The show runs through Aug. 27.
The venue will be open till 8 p.m.; regular hours are noon to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays.

• Gallery-9, home of the North Olympic Artist Cooperative, is featuring Nancy Rody and her glass jewelry and stained glass sculptures and KarenLee Eaton’s photography during July.
The gallery, at 1012 Water St., is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays.
Rody presents contemporary glass and china mosaic art pieces, using adhesives to apply tiles, cut glass and broken ceramic pieces to items such as glass forms, terra cotta planters and vases. Colored grout is used to fix these pieces in place.
She began as a traditional stained-glass artist 27 years ago and has been inspired by training at Pilchuck Glass School in Washington and Bullseye Glass in Portland, Ore., where she learned glass and related material design and construction from a number of well-known guest glass masters.
Eaton was born and raised in Port Townsend and has been taking pictures since she was 7. After many years of photographing with film, she entered the world of digital photography.
In 2017, she completed the University of Washington’s Certificate in Photography program.
For her July featured artist show, she returns to her photographic roots of Pacific coastal scenes and the forests that kiss those shores. From the redwood forest to Port Townsend shores, she has been shooting in softer, natural tones to embrace the quiet grandeur of creation.
Eaton also will exhibit her signature night sky work and a collection of hummingbird images reflecting every season.

• Aurora Loop Gallery presents a one-person show, “Confluence” by Sandy Johnson, a series of mixed media paintings dealing with tidal pools.
The show opens Saturday with a meet-and-greet with Johnson from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibit will run through July 30.
Hours at the gallery, at 971 Aurora Loop, are from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday or by appointment.
After traveling and living all over the world, she and her husband decided to retire in Port Townsend. Living at North Beach, her proximity to the waters of the Strait gave her the idea of confluence for this series: how water from rivulets, streams and rivers converge and meet at the water’s edge, carrying flotsam and jetsam to local shores.
She used actual seawater, either dipped or sprayed to duplicate the tactile quality of salt and sand. With a limited palette of black ink and walnut ink, she used the unexpected element of silver leaf to represent the glistening water sparkle. White and black pigment pens and indigo pigments enhance the details.
“As I continue to watch climate change affect our small corner of the globe, these paintings have evolved to document our waterside experiences,” Johnson said.

• Port Townsend Gallery will feature Mitchel Osborne and Melissa Bixby during July.
Visitors can meet the artists at the gallery, at 715 Water St., between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. during the Saturday Art Walk. Light refreshments will be served.
The gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and by appointment.
Osborne is a professional photographer who has been a contributor to international travel guides, travel magazines, books and major editorial publications. After moving to Port Townsend, he discovered the beauty, craftsmanship and preservation of the wooden boats in this historical setting.
The July gallery show includes his signature water reflection series that, at first look, are abstract but are of Wooden Boat Festival boats.
He has self-published, under his imprint, Gumbo Publishing, New Orleans and Mardi Gras books, Mississippi River Guides, calendars on New Orleans, Mardi Gras and the Wooden Boat Festival.
The Pacific Ocean has influenced Bixby’s life since childhood. From tide pooling in China Port Bay near Homer, Alaska, to free diving in the Puget Sound, she stays in close contact with it.
Bixby uses Batik to express her love of aquatic animals.
At the Port Townsend Gallery can be seen her expressive batiks that include the Giant Pacific Octopus, whales, seals and jellyfish.
