Santa to appear on Zoom, in a drive-by

SEQUIM — Like dozens of other community happenings in 2020, the annual Breakfast With Santa event is going to look a little different this year.

“We will be visiting with Santa Claus again this Christmas,” said Cynthia Martin, board chair of Parenting Matters Foundation and First Teacher.

“But because of the pandemic, we will introduce him differently.”

Children, family and friends are invited to join Santa in a special parent storytime on Zoom at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at bit.ly/FTParentZoom or via the First Teacher Facebook page, www.face book.com/FirstTeacherPMF.

In addition, families can meet up with Santa and his elves at a special “drive-by” event set for 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave.

Younger visitors will receive goodie bags full of age-specific books and other gifts.

Wearing masks is encouraged.

“Helping parents become even better at being their child’s first teacher is what Parenting Matters Foundation and First Teacher are all about,” said Karen Tyson, managing coordinator for the event.

“Encouraging parents to read to their children and encouraging them to enjoy reading serves them, and ultimately our community. These two appearances, the Zoom meeting on the 30th and the Say-Hello-to-Santa drive-by on the 5th, will be delightful for all.”

Martin, her husband David and former Sequim schools superintendent Ken Anderson, started the Parenting Matters Foundation in 1990 to help parents instill in their children critical thinking skills that will aid them in their personal and professional lives.
