SAMFest, formerly BoomFest, offers music, other arts this weekend

PORT TOWNSEND — More workshops and art performances, plus a new name, distinguish this four-day music and art festival from years past.

The annual BoomFest has been renamed SAMFest, or Solidarity through Arts and Music.

The name also honors the late Sam Smith, a friend of the organizers, Cath Seifert, Damon Barlow, The Dragon’s Nest and Jeff Pang of The High Council.

During SAMFest 2017, visitors camp four days and three nights, revel in live music, take part in workshops, enjoy food and beer, and participate in art performances today through Sunday at Dragon’s Nest, 1620 S. Discovery Road. Thursday kicked off the festival.

Tickets, available at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2951451, cost $75 per person for a weekend pass and T-shirt, $50 per person for a weekend pass and camping, and $20 per person for a day pass for either today or Saturday.

When?

Today’s events and performances go from 10 a.m. to midnight, and Saturday, they last from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday.

Today’s lineup includes Kilcid, Swindler, Gerle Haggard and Uncle Funk and the Dope 6.

On Saturday, Mystic Arrows, Blue Lotus, Adrian Xavier and The High Council will perform. For more information on the bands, visit solidarityartmusic.com/music.

What’s included

The workshops include morning yoga, kids’ bopper swords, acroyoga (partner yoga), plant walk, fusion dance, belly dance, kids’ drumming, African dance, body divine for women, an introduction to the S’Klallam language and sound healing.

Dogs are not allowed at the festival.
