Saltfire Theatre to stage ‘An Empty Plate’ in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Saltfire Theatre will stage its sixth production, “An Empty Plate in the Cafe du Grand Boeuf,” with shows at 7:30 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 24.

The play will be performed at Vintage, 725 Water St. in Port Townsend.

Tickets are $25 per person at https://saltfiretheatre.bpt.me.

The play, written by Michael Hillinger, is a dark comedy set in early 1960s Paris.

The Cafe du Grand Bouef caters to just one customer, Victor, and he has decided to starve himself to death. He directs the staff to serve him nothing but an empty plate, and they respond with a series of empty plates, each combined with a detailed description of the dish that is not on the plate.

Cast members include Erik Van Beuzekom, as Victor, the sole patron of the café; Scott Bahlmann, as Claude, the head waiter; Laura Cornell as Mimi, the waitress; Doug Caskey, as Gaston, the chef; Kait Tapia, as Antoine, a waiter-in-training; Maude Eisele, as Miss Berger, Victor’s longed-for love; and Charlie Pope, Victor’s understudy.

Crew members include co-directors Maude Eisele and Genevieve Barlow; costumes by Lillian Gulden and Libby Wennstrom; set designer Gina Bonneau; sound designers Jim Burke and Kirsten Louise Webb, propmistress Sarah Walker Henry; and stage managers Tobi McEnerney, Morgan Shepard and Trystan Hamilton.
