‘Romance,’ Ravel on Port Angeles Symphony program Saturday

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Symphony’s first concert of spring is set for Saturday, March 30, and will feature music by Antonin Dvorak and Maurice Ravel.

Tickets to the 7:30 p.m. concert in the Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center, 304 E. Park Ave., range from $15 for students and seniors to $18 general admission and $25 to $35 for premium seats.

There will be a short pre-concert chat with conductor and music director Jonathan Pasternack at 6:40 p.m.

To reserve tickets, call 360-457-5579. To buy general seating tickets, visit Port Book and News at 104 E. First St. in Port Angeles or Joyful Noise Music at 112 W. Washington St. in Sequim.

Remaining tickets will be sold at the door.

The symphony also will open its final rehearsal to the public Saturday at 10 a.m. in the high school performing arts center. Admission will cost $7.

At both events, youths 16 and younger will be admitted free with a paying adult.

On the program for Saturday night is Dvorak’s “Romance for Violin” with violinist James Garlick.

Also planned is Ravel’s “Tzigane” (“Gypsy”).

Garlick has traveled across the United States and to South Africa and Cuba with various ensembles. Juilliard-trained, he now performs with the Minnesota Orchestra and lives in St. Paul, Minn., with his wife, Emily James, a Port Angeles High School alumnus.

Another Ravel work, “Le Tombeau de Couperin,” opens Saturday’s concert. This piece puts Port Townsend oboist Anne Krabill into the bright spotlight.

Information about this and the rest of the orchestra’s season can be found at PortAngelesSymphony.org.
