Rock club to host open house Saturday in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Gem & Mineral Association will host a Spring Open House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The open house will be in the club’s shop and lapidary classroom at 81 Hooker Road, Unit 5, near Sequim.

The lapidary classroom provides classroom space for teaching metal smithing, faceting, beading, chain maille, gem tree making, wire wrapping and other lapidary classes while the shop provides equipment for cutting and polishing rocks, club members said.

Club members will be available to show visitors the shop, where they can learn how to cut and polish stones.

Class instructors also will be available to explain the various classes offered by the club.

The club is a nonprofit association organized for educational activity in the science of geology as it relates to the discovery of rock, mineral and fossils and in the art of lapidary to enhance rocks’ natural beauty. The club also promotes rock hounding through information and special programs.
